FinTechOn 2026 & AFA Summit: Powering Global Supply Chain Resilience Through Asian FinTech Collaboration

In an era defined by the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor technology, and the digital economy, the dynamics of global supply chain competition have profoundly shifted. Success is no longer solely measured by production and logistics efficiency. Instead, the seamless, synchronized operation of cross-border payments, financing mechanisms, data exchange, and robust financial infrastructure has emerged as a critical pillar of corporate resilience.

Against this backdrop, the highly anticipated FinTechOn 2026, held in conjunction with the Asia FinTech Alliance (AFA) Summit, is set to convene on September 2nd and 3rd at the luxurious Far Eastern Shangri-La, Taipei. Building on the momentum of last year’s discussions, this year’s summit will intensify its focus on “FinTech × Global Supply Chain.” Experts and leaders will delve deep into how financial technology can empower global supply chains to achieve greater efficiency in cross-border capital flows, fortify risk management strategies, and foster unprecedented regulatory and industry collaboration across the vibrant Asian markets. Jaclyn Tsai, Chairman of the AFA and Honorary Chairperson of the Taiwan FinTech Association, underscored the evolving nature of supply chain resilience. “Global supply chain resilience transcends the mere question of ‘where to produce’,” Tsai explained. “It increasingly hinges on the speed at which enterprises can execute payments, secure financing, verify transactions, and adapt swiftly to market fluctuations. In our interconnected digital economy, market fragmentation carries a significant cost. While each of the 16 markets represented by AFA members boasts formidable strengths, their collective potential is exponentially amplified through effective interconnection.”

Jaclyn Tsai, Chairman of the Asia FinTech Alliance (AFA), stated that global supply chain resilience is no longer just a question of “where to produce,” but also depends on how quickly companies can complete payments, financing, and verification, and adapt to market changes.

Asia Unites: International Delegations Converge in Taiwan

Since its inaugural combined event last year, the annual FinTechOn forum, hosted by the Taiwan FinTech Association, has seamlessly integrated with the AFA Summit. Last year saw enthusiastic participation from AFA members. This year, reflecting the AFA platform’s escalating international influence and strengthening industry ties, the level of engagement has been significantly elevated. Beyond the personal attendance of AFA representatives, Taiwan will proudly host dedicated industry delegations from key Asian economies, including Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia. Their presence signifies the profound importance and high regard these nations hold for FinTechOn and the AFA Summit.

The AFA stands as a pioneering, self-initiated international cooperation platform. Its core mission is to champion regional financial innovation, facilitate critical policy dialogue, and forge robust industry connections. Comprising 16 leading FinTech associations and organizations across Asia, with each economy represented by a single, authoritative entity, the AFA encompasses a diverse and dynamic FinTech ecosystem. Member economies include: Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Mongolia, Nepal, India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan—spanning a spectrum from burgeoning emerging markets to established developed nations.

Taiwan’s Semiconductor Prowess Demands Next-Gen Financial Infrastructure

Dr. Nicky Lu, the visionary founder, chairman, and CEO of Etron Technology, a stalwart contributor to the global IC design and semiconductor industry, highlighted Taiwan’s pivotal role. He emphasized the immense scale of the global electronics and semiconductor supply chain, with Taiwan’s own industry boasting an estimated annual output value of approximately US$670 billion. Dr. Lu asserted that to sustain such a colossal industrial engine, the underlying financial infrastructure must undergo a parallel and equally significant upgrade.

“For the industry, we demand both speed and efficiency,” Dr. Lu articulated. “Yet, simultaneously, we require unwavering security, reliability, and resilience.”

Dr. Lu’s distinguished career includes serving as Chairman of the World Semiconductor Council (WSC) (2014-15), Chairman of the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) (2013-17) and current Standing Director, Chairman of the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) Board of Directors (2009-11) and current Director and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Leadership Council, President of the AI-on-Chip Taiwan Alliance (AITA), and Standing Director of the Hsinchu Science Park Industrial Association.

He further cautioned that within the intricate global semiconductor or AI supply chain, a single misstep in a financial or transactional link can trigger a cascading effect far beyond the immediate transaction. Such an error could disrupt production, delay deliveries, impact suppliers and customers, and potentially ripple across entire multi-national supply chains.

Dr. Nicky Lu (center), founder, chairman, and CEO of Etron Technology, pointed out that Taiwan’s electronics and semiconductor industry’s annual output value is estimated to reach approximately US$670 billion, and the financial infrastructure supporting such a vast industrial system must also be upgraded simultaneously.

Accelerating FinTech-Real Economy Integration Across Asia

The AFA posits that the next frontier for FinTech development in Asia extends beyond the launch of individual innovative products within specific markets. The true imperative lies in elevating interoperability across markets, enabling financial services to genuinely support the cross-border operations of tangible industries. This critical focus will be at the heart of the FinTechOn and AFA Summit on September 2nd. Beyond Taiwan, other prominent Asian markets like South Korea, Japan, and Malaysia are actively driving FinTech infrastructure upgrades, exploring avenues such as AI-powered payments, standardized cross-border protocols, and advanced supply chain finance solutions.

  • South Korea’s AI-Driven Payments: Dongpyo Hong, Vice Chairman of AFA and Chairman of Global Cooperation for the Korea Fintech Industry Association, revealed that South Korea is pioneering tests of AI agents to execute real-time micro-payments based on actual service usage. Hong suggested, “For such advanced models to operate effectively, stablecoins could emerge as a highly efficient payment and settlement infrastructure.”
  • Japan’s Interoperability Push: Takafumi Ochiai, CFO of AFA and Vice Chairman of the Fintech Association of Japan, emphasized that enhanced market interoperability is paramount for seamless cross-border financial services. He highlighted the global relevance of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) regulations and ISO 20022 standards, stressing that “industry, information technology, and finance must all be considered in concert.”
  • Malaysia’s Supply Chain Finance Evolution: Wilson Beh, Vice Chairman of AFA and Advisor to the FinTech Association of Malaysia, observed that the regional expansion of AI, data centers, and semiconductor enterprises is fueling a surge in demand for remittances, payments, and sophisticated supply chain financing. Beh articulated, “One of AFA’s core missions is to bridge the FinTech economy with the real economy.”
