Anchorpoint’s HKDAP Stablecoin: Pioneering Institutional Digital Finance in Hong Kong

Pioneering Digital Finance: Anchorpoint Launches HKDAP Stablecoin for Institutional Adoption

Anchorpoint, a strategic joint venture formed by financial titan Standard Chartered, Web3 leader Animoca Brands, and telecommunications giant HKT, has officially unveiled HKDAP, a groundbreaking Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) stablecoin. This launch marks a significant milestone, initially targeting institutional distributors and professional investors to propel the practical integration of HKD stablecoins into real-world applications.

The journey to this launch commenced in April, when Anchorpoint successfully secured its stablecoin issuer license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). Since then, the company has diligently advanced HKDAP’s development through various stages, working in close collaboration with regulators and industry partners. This rigorous process culminated in the successful completion of comprehensive issuance and transfer tests, ensuring the stability and reliability of the digital asset.

With preparations now complete, Anchorpoint is rolling out the first phase of HKDAP. This initial phase empowers early distributors and users to integrate HKDAP into diverse commercial scenarios. Authorized distributors will facilitate seamless HKDAP-to-fiat currency exchange services for institutions, corporate clients, and professional investors. A primary focus for this phase is to enhance crucial areas such as cross-border payments and the trading and settlement of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).

Leveraging a robust 24/7 transfer and settlement mechanism, HKDAP is poised to revolutionize digital transactions. It promises to dramatically reduce transaction times and costs, while significantly boosting predictability, liquidity management, and operational efficiency for participating institutions and service providers. This foundational rollout in Hong Kong is also designed to pave the way for future expansion into international markets, laying the groundwork for the global digital asset ecosystem.

The burgeoning HKDAP ecosystem is already gaining strong traction, with two of Hong Kong’s leading licensed virtual asset exchanges, OSL Group and HashKey Exchange, confirmed as authorized distributors.

OSL Group’s Contribution to HKDAP Adoption

OSL Group has announced that eligible clients can now utilize its digital asset exchange, OSL HK, for comprehensive services including subscription, redemption, exchange, trading, and settlement of fiat currencies against HKDAP. OSL is committed to collaborating with Anchorpoint to drive HKDAP’s practical adoption, initially concentrating on applications such as tokenized funds, trade finance, and cross-border payments. They anticipate rolling out multiple institutional commercial applications to showcase HKDAP’s capability in supporting real economic activities through more efficient settlement and capital flow.

HashKey Exchange Bolsters HKDAP Ecosystem

Similarly, HashKey Exchange is enabling eligible institutions and professional investors to access HKDAP via its dedicated application. HashKey has successfully completed its inaugural HKDAP minting and redemption transactions for qualified clients, thoroughly validating the subscription and redemption processes against fiat currency. This partnership underscores HashKey’s commitment to supporting HKDAP’s distribution, trading, and related services, contributing to the continuous expansion and engagement of the HKD stablecoin ecosystem.

As the institutional applications of HKDAP expand in this initial phase, authorized distributors and ecosystem partners are expected to progressively unveil further arrangements and timelines for commercial use cases. Looking ahead, Anchorpoint is actively researching the potential for retail-level applications, with an ambitious target of launching these by the end of the year, contingent on market conditions and further ecosystem participation.
