Franklin Templeton and HashKey Exchange Partner to Advance Tokenized Assets in Asia
U.S. asset management powerhouse Franklin Templeton has forged a strategic partnership with Hong Kong-licensed virtual asset exchange HashKey Exchange. This collaboration is set to introduce Franklin Templeton’s pioneering tokenized money market fund to the dynamic Asian market, significantly expanding its footprint in the region’s rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.
In a recent statement released by HashKey Exchange, it was announced that its HashKey Earn channel has officially launched the “Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund (grBENJI).” This innovative fund primarily invests in U.S. government money market instruments and U.S. dollar cash assets, offering a robust and compliant on-chain investment opportunity.
However, in adherence to local regulatory frameworks, access to the grBENJI fund is currently restricted to eligible professional investors, with retail participation not yet available. Commenting on this landmark partnership, Chetan Karkhanis, Senior Vice President of Digital Asset Client Business at Franklin Templeton, expressed enthusiasm:
“Leveraging HashKey Exchange’s multi-jurisdictional platform spanning Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Bermuda, we look forward to deepening this partnership over time and expanding our offerings beyond tokenized money market funds to other tokenized products.”
Rue Haiyang, CEO of HashKey Exchange BG, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration: “By introducing the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund (grBENJI) to our wealth management channel, we are directly catering to the growing institutional demand for compliant Real World Asset (RWA) yield solutions. This partnership connects traditional finance with secure, compliant on-chain infrastructure, setting a new benchmark for transparency and capital market innovation in the region.”
Franklin Templeton’s Pioneering Role in Asian Digital Assets
Franklin Templeton has been a consistent leader in the Asian digital asset space. The firm previously demonstrated its commitment to the region’s financial innovation by launching Hong Kong’s first tokenized money market fund, the “Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund,” as part of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s “FinTech 2030” vision. This proactive stance underscores its dedication to integrating traditional financial products with cutting-edge blockchain technology.
The Surging Momentum of Real World Asset (RWA) Tokenization
Franklin Templeton’s aggressive foray into tokenized assets in Asia is a clear reflection of the explosive global growth in “Real World Asset (RWA) tokenization.” Data from the on-chain tracking platform RWA.xyz reveals a significant surge in this sector. As of August 23 this year, the total global RWA market capitalization has climbed to an impressive $38.2 billion, demonstrating exponential growth from $20.6 billion recorded in the same period last year. Notably, tokenized U.S. Treasuries lead this expansion, accounting for a substantial $15.6 billion, making them a top choice for institutional capital seeking stable and compliant on-chain yield.
This partnership between Franklin Templeton and HashKey Exchange not only signifies a major step forward for digital asset adoption in Asia but also reinforces the accelerating convergence of traditional finance and blockchain technology, promising enhanced liquidity, transparency, and accessibility for institutional investors globally.
